Moments Matter

Every moment matters! We each are influencing others daily. There are special moments that happen, some profound, some that are just a gentle touch.  Most often I find the ones that make the most difference are the unplanned, not anything special times… that become special.

Hope you all had a nice 4th of July!  Maybe you were out at a parade, (we didn’t this year as it was 112 degrees in Vegas). Maybe you were visiting friends, or family.  Maybe you just needed a well deserved day off to relax, or do something just for you.  Great!  Good for you!

Jenni Catron wrote a great post that I discovered while catching up on emails today, so I am going to share it with you as my post today.

Jennie Catron expresses this so well.  Moments matter. Enjoy!

Every moment matters.

I know you know that and yet, you don’t.

Or maybe you just forget.

I know that I forget.

Some moments don’t seem consequential.  Sometimes it’s the most mundane moments that conjure up the best memories.

I’m visiting family for a few days this week.  I only come back to my hometown about once a year.  Usually I stay so busy that I don’t allow myself to engage memories of the past.  I’ve never been terribly nostalgic.  I rarely long for what’s past.  I’m always focused on pressing forward.

There is good and bad to that mentality I suppose.

But this trip I’ve been reminded of significant moments.  Little points of influence that greatly impacted trajectory.

  • The day I walked into the local ice cream shop to inquire about a job.  A job that turned a boss into a mentor and a paycheck into a passion.  Some of my first leadership and management moments happened in that place.
  • The day I graduated high school and told my baby sister that she had to start using her alarm clock because I wouldn’t be there to wake her up every morning.  Little did I know that she spent the entire summer with the alarm clock by her pillow so that she would learn to hear it by the time school started.  We both grew up that day.

There are numerous others, but you get the point.

You never know when a moment is going to matter for more than the present.  Be alert.  Be engaged.  Look for moments that turn into memories.

You just never know when your influence is impacting someone or when someone’s influence is greatly impacting you.

Many Blessings

3 Ways to A Better Day

Thank-you.  Thanks. Merci.  Gracias.  Danke… so many ways to say thank you.

So much of life is really determined by our attitude.  Do we complain or are we grateful? Do we pay attention to the beauty that surrounds us, the sunrise and sunset, the flowers, the ocean, all of God’s creation.  Do we say thanks to our families and friends? Do we pay attention?

Here are 3 simple things we can do to  make a better day

  1. Wake up and give thanks
  2. Notice the  blessings around us and make a list – A Grateful/Thankful list
  3. Choose to be Grateful

Things for which I’m grateful-

  1. To wake up each day
  2. My husband and kids
  3. My sister, Mother, and brother
  4. My Puppy Sashie
  5. Friends at church and other areas of my life
  6. To live in a Free country – (that we are celebrating this week )
  7. Music- to listen, to sing, to create
  8. My home and neighborhood
  9. Jesus and His saving grace
  10. My car and ability to drive and travel

This is just the beginning, the list goes on.  You may find that when you write it down, your blessings list will overflow.

It is our choice.  We can choose to be grateful for all these things.  We can choose to tell those we love how much we appreciate them.  We can choose to be grateful in all circumstances… or not.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.                         1 Thessalonians 5:18

Nothing is more honorable than a grateful heart. – Seneca, 5 BC65 AD, Roman dramatist, Stoic philosopher, & politician

We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude~Cynthia Ozick

THANK YOU!  It is my joy to share this song with you.

Many Blessings

Dust It Off

Dust It Off –  those little girl and little boy dreams.  What is yours? In my day for us girls, it was Miss America, Academy Awards, being a nurse, teacher, figure skater, singer, etc.  For you guys, I imagine it was President, firefighter, policeman, doctor, etc.  Sometimes it would change daily or each year took on a different picture. As we grew older we began to see where we actually had some talent – I was never going to be in the Ice Capades, mainly because I can’t ice skate, and I really can’t do the ‘needle’ thing, so being a nurse just wasn’t in my picture.

Our own talents began to emerge, and we began to define what we really wanted to do or to be.  For me, a singer, that was it.  It was there inside me, always pulling at my heart.  It is what gives me joy, and I’ve found, through the years, that it blesses others.  God is so good in that what He gives us and uses to bless others, always comes back and blesses us again.  If we are open and allow Him to, He will develop and grow the gifts. Awesome.

What about you? Let’s go back and remember.  What is the dream that you put on the back burner, or put away in the closet on the top shelf, or maybe it’s so dusty you can’t even see it.  Pull it out and take a look.

  1. Take some time to think and remember.  Allow yourself to dream.
  2. What pulls at your heart
  3. What gives you Joy
  4. What thrills you and gives you energy- or even the thought of it will get the blood pumping
  5. What would you do if there were no limits, no way to fail? (that means dream without parameters of money, support, realistic or not)

You have a God-Sized dream inside you and maybe it scares you a little, may it scares you a lot.  But imagine how wonderful it will be to take a step toward that dream.  First you need to remember and define it.

Enjoy the experience.

Many Blessings

QUESTION:   How and when do you allow yourself to dream?  I would love to know about a dream you have for your life.

Getting ‘Un-Stuck’ 1-2-3

I’m Stuck – What do I do now?  How do I take the next step?  Have you ever asked yourself these questions?  The truth is I believe as long as we are growing and changing, we will often find ourselves at this crossroad.   This is a process I have gone to on numerous occasions in my life.  I  make a goal, and if it is long-term goal that involves a lot of steps, sometimes I find myself  –  Stuck.

I have a process that has helped me, maybe it’ll help you also.

I’m stuck – what to do next?

  1. Make an assessment of where you are
  2. Reaffirm and define the goal
  3. What is the game plan (this maybe where you are stuck.  Unsure of the next step.)
  4. Reach Out by reaching up
  5. Follow directions or advice you have received
  6. Start the process.

I’ll be sharing about my journey in this process, but for now, if you are stuck and want to get ‘Un-Stuck’, you may need help, so look around and reach out.  Many of you may learn by reading and research, great, there are lots of sources out there.  That is not my forte, I like the personal one on one approach.  I take direction well, I listen and then try to ‘own it’.  Even when I find I am being resistant, I make myself look at the suggestions and my desire to be ‘un-stiuck”.

My desire  to move forward is usually greater than my initial resistance.  I find I must be willing to make changes, to open myself up to new possibilites, even if I don’t want to, at the moment.  If I want something more and want the abundant life that I believe is ahead, I need to allow God to change me.

Like me, you may find that you like the journey of getting ‘Un-Stuck.’.  It’s like a gift waiting to be unwrapped.  Once we untie the bow, and open it up, the blessing is waiting inside for us.

Many Blessings
